MEET AYANA SHAW
Ayana Shaw is Senior at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington, DC. Banneker has a demanding and rigorous course of study in preparation of post-secondary education. Ayana has excelled at Banneker, maintaining a cumulative 4.2 GPA, achieving honor roll and recognition on the Principal’s Commendation list each quarter of her high school career. While maintaining a high standard of academic excellence, Ayana has also completed internships, volunteered more than 300 hours at local Boy’s and Girls Clubs, and served as a member of the Mayor’s Student Voice Council. Having been accepted at 10+ colleges and universities, Ayana will enter college as a freshman in Fall 2024, and plans to major in Business.

Students interested in participating in the Debutante Program
Debutantes must demonstrate exemplary academic achievement, possess exceptional character, and have outstanding involvement in extracurricular activities and community service.
Program Goals
1. Promote to young women
2. Prepare young ladies in the social graces and cultural acumen
3. Present young ladies to society
4. The money raised is collected by DC Pearls III Foundation
Ayana has the potential to receive a portion of the proceeds towards her college education.
The Debutante Program includes monthly workshops, with presentations and activities focused on health and wellness, education, leadership development, cultural arts, and community service. Each workshop will include interactive group discussions based on team and leadership building. The Debutante Program will culminate with a black-tie cotillion, where the debutantes will be presented to society and receive awards and recognitions. These activities are intended to motivate, educate and promote academic growth, cultural awareness and professionalism in cotillion program participants.
